char & zyun are extremely mature for their age.
they do not run down orchard road with toy guns to ambush unsuspecting tourists.
they do not make life difficult for students working at escape themepark during the holidays.
and they most certainly do not quote friends and laugh like janice.
zyun : we got Separated in Sec 3
i still remember sec 1 &2. when charlene would shamelessly tell guys whom i DIDN'T EVEN KNOW that i liked them. i have to count the numbers using BOTH and i repeat, BOTH of my hands.
and i remember her first boyfriend in Sec 1. he was in Sec 4 and not from our school. he wasn't good looking. rather ugly. and i shall not mention his name here. he wasn't very smart either. char reported to us that once he complained to her how difficult E maths was at Sec4 and that we'll understand in Sec 4. my foot.
let me show you how their relationship was like, and for convenience's purpose, let's call him Mr.Sad. (and FYI: i think his english was lousier than mine)
Mr.Sad hey. you wanna be my girlfriend?
char*thinking*
hey a boyfriend wouldn't be bad. he could buy me stuff. and it'll be kinda cool cos they i'll have more money for other things... okay.
on their first datechar i'm so thirsty *hint hint*
Mr.Sad thirsty ah? buy drink loh.
later onchar look at that cute toy? isn't it niiiice? i want it! *HINT HINT*
Mr.Sad want toy ah? buy loh
that night over the phonechar let's break up
Mr.Sad aaaah? ok la...
yes. that's about a far as her dating history goes.
but anyways. let's jump to sec 3. when yes. she was indeed in the PRC (people's republic of china) class. which was ironic since i'm the cheena girl.
and i was in the bio/e.lit/c.lit class. in another words the mixed class.
you think that you're sad in your class char? well let me tell you this. WE (the PRCs) are NICE people okay? we're NICE. and how do my classmates treat me?
dramatic flashbackit was 6 45 in the morning. my dad just dropped me off on his way to the airport. and i got out of the car. walked into the school gate just to hear....
HEY MAN!!!
bellowed down from the fourth storey. and suddenly everyone's attention was on me. i felt like a gazelle, targetted by lions on animal planet. i looked up just to see my male classmates lined up against the corridoor, grinning and waving down. then proceeded to cover my face the best i could and hurry to my class.
flashes back to realityhaha but char did make me ai4 xin1 zao3 can1, as we used to call it. it was quite nice. since most of the time i skip breakfast and get gastric later. she's like my mom in school. she reminds me of school functions and homework. and i kind of miss that now. cos no one is there to remind me of anything.
and as for the time that
we kissed she kissed me.
AAAAAAAARRRRRRRggggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!
Char: We got separated in Sec 3Happy times always last only for a short while. After 2 wonderful years as classmates, Zyun and I were unfortunately separated into different classes in Sec 3.
I didn't get along well with my new classmates. Zyun, however, had the luck of still being in the same class as Jingxian, hence she had no problem adjusting. I was grouped together with the studious scholars from PRC and was thrown directly into the 18th level of hell without any of my fun-loving friends.
Every recess, I'd have to wait for Zyun to spend it together with her, because, well, everyone knows we only have each other and no other friends. Yeah, anyways, I'd have to buy food for her and Jingxian and wait for them to come down to meet me at the canteen. Sometimes I'd even make breakfast for Zyun while waiting for her early in the morning in the empty and eery canteen. Bloody hell, was she a pain in the ass.
2 years went by rather quickly and the O Levels and a month of holidays later, we were once again separated, this time even further. We went to different JCs for the first 3 months and everyday we'll only contact via the telephone. Although I hate to admit it, but I do miss my dear bestie very much (even though she's annoying/a man/not at all lovely in any way). After the first 3 months, I chose to go to a Poly while she remained in NJC. It's been a year now but yet we still remain as besties. I thank God for her.
As for the part when we kissed each other... Well that's another story for another time. =D
Char: How It All BeganI met Zyun waaaaaay back in 2002 when I was posted to RVHS. Come to think of it, what a long 5 years it has been. Sometimes I think she's the reason why I flunked my exams through Sec 1 to 4, until the O Levels came and I somehow managed to scrape through.
It was a cold dark (duh, it was like 6.30am when I reached the school building) morning. Peering through my thick glasses (it's not my fault there was a camp and contacts were too much trouble. I pack light.), I scanned through the crowd. What the. It was freaking one hour early for school and yet there were already people sitted in the hall, reading their storybooks. Why God, WHY did I chose such a boring school?! Anyways. Scan scan scan. No cute boys. I shrugged my shoulders and sat down. For the rest of the day, I decided to keep quiet as I observed my classmates and search for a person truly worthy to be my new best friend.
I remembered distinctively when I first saw Zyun. She was wearing our school PE tee shirt, buttoned all the way up to create the illusion that she has no neck. Her hair was....... well..... if you know how a shitake mushroom looks like, that's about how it looks. I thought she was a demure girl. And at least I thought she was a girl. After that incident, I've learnt that first impressions do not count.
The first conversation we ever had on 10th Jan 2002:
"Happy Birthday, Zyun."
"Thanks."
And she walked away.
How rude. I figured I'll never hang out with her. Ever.
It was only after a whole lot of time, a certain crazy chubby friend and a skinny friend later, that we started hanging out. Ahh, how fate loves to make fun of us.
Zyun: How It All Began
Char and I have been friends for 5 years. This year, it being our sixth year, we decided to come up with a blog so that we can keep track of all our endavours from different perspectives.
To make things simpler, i decided to write in black.
okay so this is how we met:
I remember it being a pretty bad start in a new school for me already. it was the first day of school in 2002, and i didn't enjoy it very much from the moment that it started. And it definitely did not help that i was forced to cut my hair short (above the collar to be exact) and wear the most terrifying school uniform in this country. The infamous nurse/redcross uniform. (if you still do not know which school that is, then you're really lucky)
"Why in the world did you go to that school?" my primary school best friend asked me as i called her after school to bitch about our 'first day's.
Embarrassingly, the reason was that the school was a co-ed school. As compared to the other top schools which were RGS, MGS or NYGH. The only other co-ed school was Dunman High, which was on the other side of the country. I honestly couldn't being myself to join an all girls school. Except for maybe MGS, which was my second choice.
Well back to the first day, i already sensed that the day was screwed up as i reached the school and couldn't find my name anywhere on the name list to see which class was in. That was puzzling as my surname is Zhang which should be guaranteed to be the last 5 names. Since my name starts with Y. my name should have been within the last three names.
But nope, my names wasn't anywhere, simply because it was on the GUYS name list. Grandpa, why would you do this to me? why would you give me a name that practically spells "masculinity" which would then follow me for ... as long as i rememver? Why Grandpa? WHY? WHY?
So i finally found my class with the aid of a teacher, to my disappointment. There were no cute guys in my class. (what? i'm a girl. DESPITE what people say) So i sat down, next to this really skinny girl (Jing Xian one of my best friends) and in front of this slightly chubby guy (Edmund who is still my friend).
ok. THIS is the moment that i met char. And it's quite amazing if you know char because now that i'm her friend. i feel so cheated by her. she is NOTHING like how she was on the first day.
"hey my name is Jing Xian," the skinny said to me "and this is charlene" she leaned back to reveal another person on her other side.
My first impression of Charlene was that she was an introvert (HAH!). her skirt ended under her knees, her t-shirt was slightly baggy. she wore glasses and her hair was short and neat. When i spoke to her...
"Hi, i'm zyun, what's your name?"
"...."
"i'm sorry, what?"
"...."
"...huh?"
"charlene"
it was so difficult to hear her. she spoke like one of those ancient "be seen but not heard" chinese girls. How was i to know that she would turn into the minx that she is?
i smiled politely at her. but deep down i was thinking.
"freak, i'll never hang out with her. she's so boring."
she wasn't physically active either.
as i watched karen (another friend) chase edmund around classroom with a broom on the very first day (until they someow broke it), char was probably sitting somewhere in the background doodling or reading or something equally misleading to her personality.
it was until later, after she was appointed the CIP representative or sometihng that we actually spoke again. It was then, during a project, where we were in the same group, that i realised that this tall hairy girl actually had a personality. a minxish one to be precise.
so we started hanging out. with jing xian and karen.
